A Journey Through Barcelona’s History
The founding of Barcelona is lost in the mythical mists of time; perhaps the half-god Hercules was the founder when the Barca nona (the ninth boat) arrived at the coast.

Through the centuries, the Romans, the Goths, and the Muslims lived in the city. In the Middle Ages, Barcelona was the head of a powerful kingdom that dominated the Mediterranean Sea.

In the XVIII and XIX centuries, industry and commerce changed the old city, and the Eixample (the enlargement of the city) was born with the genius of Ildefons Cerdà.

But it was especially in 1992, with the Olympic Games, when Barcelona opened the Olympic Village ( Vila Olímpica ) and the classic silhouette of the city changed. The relationship between Barcelona and its sea was definitively complete
